ICE Lodges Detainers for Two Illegal Aliens Who Allegedly Killed a Man and Injured 3-Year-Old in a Head-On Collision in Texas

Both the driver who allegedly caused the crash and his passenger are illegal aliens from Mexico

WASHINGTON - The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released the following statement after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged detainers asking Texas officials not to release two criminal illegal aliens who are charged with intoxication manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and evading arrest after attempting to flee the scene.

According to local reporting, on September 12^th, 27-year-old Alex "Bubba" Nunez was killed in a head-on crash in New Braunfels, with his 3-year-old daughter being injured. Police say the driver who crashed into Nunez was Rafael Alejandro Arreguin-Ramirez, an illegal alien from Mexico. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Arreguin-Ramirez's passenger, Alejandro Aguillen Acosta, also an illegal alien from Mexico, was charged with evading arrest and criminal trespass after he fled the scene and hid in a nearby garage. ICE lodged detainers for both suspects with the Guadalupe County Jail the day after they were arrested.

"These two illegal aliens from Mexico have been charged with intoxicated manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and evading arrest for their involvement in a fatal head-on collision in Texas that killed a man and injured a 3-year-old," said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. "Alex Nunez should still be alive today because this tragedy was completely preventable. ICE has lodged detainers asking our partners in Texas to cooperate with us so that these criminals can be removed from our country after they face justice. My thoughts and prayers are with Alex Nunez's family, as well as for the child's speedy recovery."

Arreguin-Ramirez illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and location. Aguillen-Acosta first illegally entered the United States through Texas in March 2023 and was granted a voluntary return to Mexico. He then illegally re-entered the country through New Mexico in January 2025 and was deported that same month. He illegally entered the country for a THIRD time - a felony - at an unknown date and location.
