The City of Valdosta Public Works Department is providing an important update regarding residential garbage collection and the use of City-issued 90-gallon garbage cans.
Effective Tuesday, January 6, all City of Valdosta 90-gallon garbage cans will continue to be collected, even if a can is overfilled. However, residents should be aware of the following collection guidelines:
During January and February, the Public Works Department will be installing cameras on all garbage trucks. These cameras will allow the City to document collection activity and capture photos showing the number of garbage cans being serviced at each stop.
At the same time, computer tablets are being prepared for use by sanitation crews. These tablets will:
Residents who need additional garbage capacity may purchase extra City-issued 90-gallon cans for a fee of $8.00 per month per can.
The City strongly encourages customers to assess their household needs and purchase additional cans during January and February, if necessary.
Beginning the first week of March, the City will begin addressing extra unpaid Valdosta 90-gallon cans that are placed out for collection without being properly registered and paid for.
The City of Valdosta appreciates the cooperation of residents as these improvements are implemented to ensure fair, efficient, and accountable sanitation services for the community.
