Halloween is taking on a smaller-than-usual look at Ascension Saint Agnes, where NICU nurses have created tiny, homemade costumes for some of the hospital's youngest patients as part of a beloved tradition spanning nearly eight years.
Led by Shannon Robertson and Jennifer Walko, RN's, the NICU team dressed the babies in adorable zoo animal costumes, including tiny elephants, lions and flamingos, bringing a festive touch to the unit. Each year, the team chooses a new Halloween theme, creating special, handmade outfits that celebrate the holiday and bring smiles to families and caregivers alike.
While a hospital stay may not be what families envision for their baby's first Halloween, the annual celebration gives parents a chance to share in the holiday with their newborns and offers caregivers a joyful way to support families during their NICU stay.
"There's something so special about seeing these little babies dressed up for Halloween," said Jennifer Robinson, Director, Maternal Child Services, Ascension Saint Agnes. "Our team puts so much love into caring for them, and getting to share in a moment like this reminds us that even in the NICU, there's room for a little fun."
