The City of Reno will open a new dog play area at Northwest Park on Jan. 30, marking the completion of a community-driven project made possible through community partnership and in-kind support.
Located on a former community garden site near the baseball fields off Apollo Way, the new dog play area transforms an underused parcel into a safe, welcoming space for dogs and their owners to gather, exercise, and socialize.
"This project really reflects the power of collaboration," said Ward 5 Councilmember Devon Reese. "Thanks to our community partners and local businesses stepping up, we're able to turn a neglected space into something that will be enjoyed by residents and their pets for years to come."
This project was made possible through a partnership with Sierra Nevada Realtors and was kickstarted by a $7,500 Placemaking Grant from the National Association of Realtors. In addition to grant funding, the City is thankful to additional community partners including Sierra Nevada Realtors, and Tholl Fencing, who donated staff time and expertise to support site improvements and fencing work.
The Northwest Park Dog Play Area will be open to dogs of all sizes and is designed to serve as an accessible neighborhood amenity for the surrounding community.
Organizations or individuals interested in supporting future park improvements or being recognized as project supporters are encouraged to contact the City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department. Donations are accepted through the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada.
