Work on traffic signal installation will cause detours

JACKSON, Wyo. The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) and contract crews are continuing work on two infrastructure projects in the downtown Jackson area. Drivers will see some disruption next week as WYDOT and the contractor move ahead setting new signal poles.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, crews will be setting vertical signal poles. The work will force temporary road closures at several locations while the job is underway. Crews will need roughly four hours to set all four poles.

Monday local traffic impacts:

5 p.m. to 7 p.m. South Millward Street from Broadway Avenue to Pearl Street will be closed. Drivers will be detoured around the next block.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. North Millward Street from Broadway Avenue to Deloney Avenue will be closed.

"Currently, this section is already closed for northbound traffic. During the pole installation, southbound drivers will also see a closure for up to two hours and people will be detoured around to the next block," WYDOT resident engineer Bob Hammond said.

Beginning Thursday, Oct. 29, crews will be lifting and setting the mast arms across the lanes. This work will take place overnight, beginning at 8 p.m. Traffic will be detoured around the next block as crews raise all four arms of the signal. No traffic will be allowed under the arm until it is secured and set.

The work is part of two infrastructure projects that include drainpipe installation, a complete traffic signal replacement, concrete slab repairs, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian sidewalk upgrades. Initial work will focus on the installation of new drain inlets, sidewalk, and ramp replacements on Broadway Avenue at Cache Street, Glenwood Street, and Millward Street along with a new traffic signal at the intersection of Millward Street and Broadway Avenue.

All active construction, detours, and intersection closures are scheduled to remain in place until Nov. 21, when crews will suspend operations for the winter season. Contract crews will return to the site in the spring to complete the remaining project work.
