Following further investigations at the east end of Sheringham Promenade, NNDC has today enhanced the barriers surrounding the substantial void found beneath the walkway. The void is significant - large enough to accommodate a transit van. This is a potentially dangerous area, which could pose a risk of injury to anyone ignoring the barriers, the Council is appealing to members of the public to observe the restricted access.
An NNDC spokesperson said:
"We are appealing to the public to stay away from this area of Sheringham's prom while we continue to assess the void and plan works to repair the promenade. The barriers are there to prevent potential injury, but in recent weeks they have been moved or ignored. That's why today we are erecting more substantial fences around the affected areas.
Work is continuing to develop an action plan to repair the damage to the promenade caused by water undermining the structure. We aim to re-open this area to the public as soon as the remedial works are completed."
