Pasadena Water and Power Recognized with 2026 Green Power Leadership Award for Impactful Procurement

PASADENA, Calif.- Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) received the 2026 Green Power Leadership Award from the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS), a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing sustainable energy and climate solutions. PWP earned the award in the "Impactful Procurement" category, which recognizes the utility's leadership in advancing a progressive municipal clean-energy transition toward 100% carbon-free electricity by the end of 2030. The award was presented at CRS's Renewable Energy Markets Conference on September 2.

"Through forward-looking procurement strategies and targeted investments, PWP is accelerating the development of new renewable energy and storage resources while strengthening grid reliability across Pasadena," said David Reyes, PWP General Manager. "We thank the CRS for this award, which underscores Pasadena's position as a clean-energy leader, and we are honored to be recognized for the City's exceptional progress and results."

This recognition reflects work done to implement Pasadena's Optimized Strategic Plan which supports Resolution 9977 declaring a climate emergency. Since adopting the Integrated Resource Plan in 2023, Pasadena's long-range blueprint for providing reliable, environmentally responsible electricity at competitive rates, PWP has further expanded its clean energy portfolio with new renewable energy and storage resources that place the City firmly on track toward its 2030 goal.

A core pillar of PWP's strategic planning is a commitment to further expanding local solar and battery storage. By prioritizing municipal sites and supporting innovative projects, such as the forthcoming Glenarm Battery Energy Storage System, a 25 MW, four-hour utility-scale battery that will deliver carbon-free energy during peak hours to support grid reliability, PWP is reducing transmission constraints and creating new opportunities for clean energy development.
