ROSELAND, N.J. - The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) congratulates Kevin T. Bordner, CPA, director of corporate accounting at Corcentric in Cherry Hill, and Caitlin M. Smith, CPA, partner at SKC and Co. CPAs LLC in Booton Township, on being selected to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) 2025 Leadership Academy. They are among 36 professionals chosen nationally to be included in the Academy's 17th graduating class. The program takes place Dec. 8-11 in Durham, North Carolina.
Both Bordner and Smith are members of the NJCPA. Smith has been actively involved in the NJCPA's Student Programs & Scholarship Committee and its Cannabis Interest Group and was one of its 2022 Ovation Award winners in the Woman to Watch category.
At Corcentric, Bordner has been part of five acquisitions and has held various positions including corporate accounting manager, senior corporate accounting manager and senior financial reporting manager. He also helped start an intern program with a key focus at Rowan University. Bordner received his master's in accounting and his Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in accounting from Rider University.
"I have been responsible for hiring and developing multiple people within our organization. This has been one of the most rewarding challenges I have been through yet. I have developed a real passion for inspiring and motivating others. Watching these young people grow both on a personal and professional level is extremely rewarding and, in my mind, is as rewarding as your own growth," he said.
At SKC, Smith supports clients in areas ranging from tax planning and operational structure to long-term growth and profitability. She has developed a strong industry specialization in healthcare, dental and veterinary practices, where she advises physicians, dentists and veterinarians on building solid financial foundations and scaling their businesses sustainably. Smith also chairs SKC's Future Council, which drives internal innovation. She received her bachelor's degree from Centenary University with a double major in accounting and mathematics.
"I hope to gain new tools and perspectives that make me a stronger mentor and leader. I want to learn from others in the program, be challenged to think differently and bring back strategies I can use to inspire my team, support young professionals and expand the impact of my community work," said Smith. "Ultimately, I'd like this training to help me grow in ways that create lasting, positive change both within my firm and beyond."
"We are extremely proud of Kevin and Caitlin on being selected for such a great program as they continue to make their mark on the accounting profession. We look forward to their continued engagement with the NJCPA and their ability to lead the next generation of accounting professionals," added Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.
The AICPA Leadership Academy was designed to strengthen and expand the leadership skills of promising young professionals while they network with a peer group of talented and motivated CPAs. Participants were selected from public accounting firms of all sizes, business and industry, government and consulting firms.
Attendees were recommended by their employers, state CPA societies and/or volunteer organizations. To date, more than 510 CPAs have participated in the AICPA Leadership Academy.
