Washington, D.C. - Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement following President Trump's announcement that the United States, "will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points."
"Today, President Trump announced that he intends to seize and occupy foreign territory. That means American boots on the ground-American lives at risk-in a war the American people strongly oppose.
"Yesterday, Trump declared that he 'loves inflation,' clearly he loves war just as much-so much for lower prices and no new wars. Trump promised this war would be quick and painless-that was more than 100 days ago. Since then, the American people have been paying the price for Trump's directionless war of choice-gas is up 40%, inflation just hit a three-year high, and life gets more expensive every week.
"We should be ending this war, not expanding it. There is no objective, no exit strategy, and no end in sight. The moment we put American boots on the ground, we are sinking into a quagmire of Trump's own making. Trump and Republicans are putting the lives of servicemembers at risk for no good reason, setting billions in taxpayer dollars on fire, and making life more painful and expensive for families here at home. Enough. No boots on the ground. This Republican majority must join Democrats in voting to put an end to this war."
