Nunn Hosts Small Business Roundtable, Discusses Cutting Costs and Burdensome Red Tape

WEST DES MOINES, IA - Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) today joined Everett Woodel Jr., Acting Chief Counsel for the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy, SBA Great Plains Regional Administrator Brad Zaun, and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for a roundtable with Iowa small business owners focused on lowering costs, cutting red tape, and building on recent wins for Main Street.

The roundtable was held at T12 Distillery in West Des Moines and brought together local business owners to discuss how permanent tax relief and regulatory reforms are giving small businesses more certainty to invest, hire, and grow, as well as opportunities to build on that progress.

"Small businesses should be focused on serving their customers, creating jobs, and growing the economy, not spending their time and money filling out paperwork for Washington," said Rep. Nunn . "We delivered permanent tax relief in the Working Families Tax Cuts and took burdensome reporting requirements off the backs of Main Street businesses, but there's more work to do. Today, we heard directly from the people signing the front of the paycheck about what's working and where Washington can get out of the way. I'll keep working with Iowa small business owners, Republicans and Democrats alike, to lower costs, cut red tape, and make it easier to build and grow a business here at home."

The Working Families Tax Cuts made the 20% small business tax deduction and 100% bonus depreciation permanent, allowing small businesses to keep more of what they earn and immediately write off investments in new equipment and other business assets. These permanent provisions provide the long-term certainty Iowa employers need to invest, expand, and create jobs. Rep. Nunn also secured permanent relief from Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements, lifting another federal mandate from Main Street businesses.

During the roundtable, the group also discussed how Washington can build on these wins by opening new opportunities for small businesses, keeping the cost of doing business down, and providing the certainty entrepreneurs need to compete and grow. Rep. Nunn has made cutting unnecessary red tape a priority, including passing his Protecting Small Businesses from Excessive Paperwork Act , which earned unanimous support in the U.S. House and gives small businesses greater flexibility to meet federal reporting requirements without facing unnecessary penalties.
