On February 22, H.E. Ambassador Xiao Qian attended the 15th Perth Chinese New Year Fair and delivered a speech. Mr. Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia, Dr. Tony Buti, Minister for Multicultural Interests, Mr. Basil Zempilas, Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Bruce Reynolds, Mayor of the City of Perth and Andy Yuan, and the event organizer, Chinese Community Association President attended the event. Chinese Consul-General in Perth Fu Lihua was also present.
In his speech, Ambassador Xiao extended New Year greetings to friends from all sectors in WA, stating that over the past year, China-Australia relations have maintained steady progress with fruitful outcomes in practical cooperation across various fields, and exchanges between China and Western Australia have demonstrated renewed vitality. He acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the Chinese community and encouraged them to continue playing an active role in fostering the stable and enduring development of China-Western Australia relations.
Premier Cook, Dr. Buti and others extended their greetings, emphasizing the contributions by Chinese community in WA to local multicultural construction, and expressed their continued support for the community in promoting the harmonious development of Western Australia's multicultural society.
The event site was filled with a joyous and festive atmosphere. Local residents joined in the celebrations by watching lion dances, visiting the temple fair, setting off firecrackers, and receiving red envelopes, celebrating a happy Chinese New Year together.
