Governor Brown Portrait U nveiling Remarks
June 16, 2026
Good afternoon and thank you all for being here today to share a special moment here in the Capitol.
I want to recognize that in addition to Governor Brown and her family and friends, we have with us today Governor Barbara Roberts and Governor Ted Kulongoski. It's wonderful and a special occasion to have this many former governors together. Thank you for being here to celebrate Governor Brown and her legacy of service to Oregon.
I'm sure when Governor Brown first walked and worked these halls on behalf of the women's rights movement many years ago, she never imagined she'd be sitting here today, waiting to unveil her official portrait, to hang alongside other governors. It's an honor to be here today to witness this with you. Thank you for your leadership on behalf of Oregonians.
Persistence and hard work and legacy have a way of sneaking up on you. Governor Brown did the work - with persistence and caring. She led our state through challenging events. From mass shootings to an unprecedented occupation of a federal facility to a global pandemic that shook us to our core, Oregon was tested and Governor Brown was tested - and she stood firm on her values and her willingness to care for the entire state.
I'm excited that Oregonians will have the opportunity to come here to the Capitol and see Governor Brown's portrait alongside the portraits of the governors who came before her and partake in an important tradition of remembering and honoring public service for others.
Thank you, Governor Brown, for your service and congratulations on today's unveiling.
