As part of her working visit to Tallinn this Friday, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė met with Estonia's Prime Minister Kristen Michal to discuss regional security, strengthening of defence and security, the need for a united and decisive response to hybrid threats, continued support for Ukraine, and other key issues of mutual relevance.

"Lithuania and Estonia stand out for their strong commitment to defence. Our actions and clearly increased defence budgets speak louder than any words. Today we are being tested through hybrid attacks that challenge not only our resilience, but also our unity. Our response must be coordinated, united, and determined-only by acting together can we ensure the security of our region," said Prime Minister Ruginienė.

The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of regional cooperation formats such as the Nordic-Baltic Eight and the Baltic Council of Ministers - both of which Estonia will chair next year. In the context of increasingly complex hybrid threats, these formats are becoming ever more vital.

With Russia continuing its brutal aggression, the Prime Ministers stressed the importance of strengthening support for Ukraine, without making concessions to the aggressor or compromises regarding Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Lithuania and Estonia also reaffirmed their commitment to consistently reinforcing EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus, highlighting the need for the most effective implementation of the existing sanctions.

The counterparts discussed the need to further develop the Baltic defence industry - exploring partnership opportunities for joint projects, encouraging innovation, and increasing the region's attractiveness for defence-related investment.

They also reviewed progress on the Rail Baltica project, ways to boost the bilateral economic cooperation and strengthen energy security.
