The City Council on Tuesday, September 23 will consider a crosswalk safety project as well as a contract with Team Netherlands, among other business.
The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
The Council will consider advertising construction bids for the Enhanced Pedestrian Safety Improvements project, a plan funded through the Caltrans Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The improvements would be implemented at 17 Caltrans-selected locations throughout Mission Viejo - mostly near schools and parks. The project would include new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) equipment, signing and striping modifications, and new ADA pedestrian ramps. RRFB equipment is designed to improve safety by warning drivers in real-time of pedestrians present at crosswalks.
Council Members will also consider awarding a multi-year cooperative contract with the Netherlands National Olympic Committee. The agreement with Team Netherlands (TeamNL) would expand upon last year's general agreement for its pre-game training needs leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games. This agreement would further define each agency's role and include a $1 million payment schedule to the City to cover much of the TeamNL costs while training in Mission Viejo. The Sports and Events Tourism Committee is leading this charge and is excited to support local businesses including hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, and training facilities through this effort while also bringing a piece of the Olympic movement back to the community.
After an effort to engage the community through a webpage for residents to provide comments about the staggering of districts for the 2026 election, the Council will consider the input received and provide direction regarding next year's election.
During the presentation portion of the meeting, representatives from the Orange County Sheriff's Department will discuss details about the 2025 Walk Against Drugs.
