California Department of Justice Investigating Two Southern California Officer-Involved Shootings Under AB 1506

OAKLAND - California Attorney General Rob Bonta today announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ), pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), is investigating and will independently review two separate officer-involved shootings (OIS) that occurred in Southern California on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. The first incident took place in Fontana, California at approximately 1:36 p.m. The OIS incident involved personnel from the Fontana Police Department and resulted in the death of one civilian. The second OIS incident took place in San Pedro, California at approximately 9:40 p.m., involved personnel from the Los Angeles Police Department, and resulted in the death of one civilian.

Following notification of these incidents, DOJ's California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated an investigation of each in accordance with AB 1506 mandates. Upon completion of the investigations, they will be turned over to DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
