Fatality Crash Investigation

Dunwoody, GA - September 7, 2025 - On September 6, 2025, at 9:25pm a motor vehicle crash between a Toyota Tacoma and a Honda Civic occurred in front of the LaCota Apartments at 6664 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Honda Civic pulled out of the apartment complex and onto Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Shortly after the Honda entered Peachtree Industrial Blvd, it was rear-ended by the Toyota. The driver of the Tacoma attempted to flee the scene on foot; however, he was detained by Doraville officers who responded to the area as well.

One of the occupants, an 8-year-old female, was transported to Children's Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA) where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Honda was transported to Grady Hospital. Her condition and level of injuries are not known at this time. We have not received any other updates on the occupant's conditions as of this press release.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma is Jose Alejandro Cuahuizo-Varela. He was arrested, taken to Northside Hospital for treatment and medical clearance, then transported to Dekalb County Jail for the charges below:

• Homicide by Vehicle (Felony)
• Hit and Run (Felony)
• DUI
• Reckless Driving

This is an active investigation, and there are no other updates at this time.
