The European Union and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan held on 10 June 2026 the 14th meeting of the Association Committee in Amman.
Held in the framework of the EU- Jordan Association Agreement, the meeting was co-chaired by Ms. Rosamaria Gili, Deputy Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Mr. Omar Fanek, Secretary General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC).
The two sides reviewed progress in implementing the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership of 29 January 2025, building on the outcome of the first EU-Jordan Leaders' Summit of 8 January 2026. The EU and Jordan representatives also exchanged views on regional and international developments and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation on political, economic, and security matters. The EU reiterated its support for Jordan's role for regional stability, as well as Jordan's humanitarian role, notably in Gaza and the West Bank, and to support its efforts in hosting Syrian refugees and host communities.
The EU and Jordan shared their concern for the disastrous humanitarian situation in Gaza. Both sides reiterated the need to ensure immediate, sustainable and unconditional delivery of humanitarian and medical aid thereto.
The EU and Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to uphold international law, international humanitarian law and human rights law, and their unwavering commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, including the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation in support of Jordan's three-pronged modernisation agenda, including key structural reforms, human capital development, green transition, and private sector development. Both sides look forward to the EU-Jordan Investment Conference to be held in Jordan before end of 2026.
In the area of security, the EU and Jordan underlined their commitment to build on the successful EU-Jordan Security and Defence Dialogue of 4 February 2026 and strengthen their cooperation in several areas of shared interest, including countering of terrorism and violent extremism, maritime security in the Red Sea and cooperation in multilateral fora. The EU will continue its substantial support to the Jordanian Armed Forces including through the European Peace Facility and deepen cooperation in the fight against organised crime and illicit trade.
The meeting prepared the ground for the upcoming 16th Meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council, to be held in Brussels.
