The Republic of Korea (ROK) imported nearly $6.0 billion worth of seafood from the world in 2025, up about 8.7 percent from the previous year. According to the Government of the ROK's Customs Service, the ROK's imports of seafood products from the United States totaled $182 million, accounting for re-exports, remained virtually unchanged from 2024. As export competition grew, the United States slipped from the ROK's sixth-largest seafood supplier in 2024 to seventh place in 2025, accounting for approximately 3 percent of ROK's overall seafood imports. While Korean consumers continue to associate U.S. seafood with premium quality, relatively high prices for major U.S. species as well as weak consumer spending and subdued foodservice demand have diminished U.S. export competitiveness and growth in Korea.
