Gilbert, AZ - The Gilbert Police Department is proud to announce the addition of K9 Gideon to its K9 Unit. Gideon, a dual-purpose police service dog, brings exceptional skill and dedication to the department's mission of protecting and serving the community.
K9 Gideon began his journey in August 2023, born in the Netherlands and bred for the drive, intelligence, and steadiness required of a future police service dog. Selected by K9 Defense for development, Gideon spent 2024 undergoing foundational training to shape his natural instincts into disciplined working skills. His early months focused on structure, confidence-building, and developing the focus necessary for law enforcement service.
In October 2025, the Gilbert Police Department acquired K9 Gideon and paired him with Officer Bracamontes. Together, they embarked on an intensive training program, building a strong working partnership and mastering the demanding skills required of a K9 team. Their hard work paid off in December 2025 when they successfully completed training and earned certification through the National Police Canine Association (NPCA).
Officer Bracamontes and K9 Gideon now serve the Town of Gilbert as a certified dual-purpose K9 team, ready to assist in patrol operations, suspect apprehension, and narcotics detection. Their commitment enhances the department's ability to keep the community safe.
