Chairman Risch Statement on House Passage of Russian Sanctions Bill

WASHINGTON-U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the statement below on the House of Representatives' passage of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which would impose critical new sanctions on Russia and those enabling its war in Ukraine.

"Today, both chambers of Congress have sent a clear message to Russia and Iran that the United States will not allow their aggression to continue unanswered. This bill will provide tools to dramatically curtail Russia's war machine and my provision, in particular, will take aim at the Russian illicit shadow fleet which it uses to evade existing sanctions on their energy sectors. Russia's attacks on Ukraine have gone on for far too long and have threatened American interests in the process. With this bill-soon to become law-we have gotten one step closer to ending this horrible war."
