Portland, Oregon - For years, Parkrose residents have faced growing challenges when it comes to accessing fresh, affordable groceries close to home. With the closure of Grocery Outlet, the community is at risk of becoming a food desert, and Portland City Council President Jamie Dunphy is fighting back alongside local leaders.

Today, Monday July 27th, 2026, Council President Dunphy will join small business owners and community organizations in Parkrose to announce a new campaign focused on bringing a grocery store back to the neighborhood. Council President Dunphy has made improving food access in East Portland a priority, and now his office will materially advance that goal for Parkrose.

"Access to food should not depend on a person's ability to travel far distances from their home," said Council President Jamie Dunphy. "Parkrose is a strong, vibrant community, and we are coming together to make sure our neighbors have the resources they need to not just survive, but thrive. This is about more than opening a grocery store, it is about investments in the future of Parkrose."

The press conference will take place at 10:00AM on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Historic Parkrose, 10402 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97220. The event will outline the next steps toward bringing a grocery store back to Parkrose and how the community can get involved.
