FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick County seniors, families, and caregivers are invited to attend an upcoming seminar to determine when it's time for loved ones to limit or stop driving. In partnership with AARP Driver Safety, the Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence will host the "We Need to Talk" seminar.
"We Need to Talk" is designed to start a conversation about the options older adults have when it comes to driving. This free seminar offers practical advice about the meaning of driving, observing driving skills, planning conversations, and finding alternatives to driving.
"Starting a conversation with an older loved one about stepping back from driving can be one of the most difficult discussions a family member or friend faces," said Kitty Devilbiss, Director of Home and Community Connections at the Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence. "This seminar is designed to support families by helping them recognize the signs that may indicate a change in driving ability, understand how to approach the topic with care and respect, and learn about the resources available to help older adults maintain independence after retiring from driving."
The seminar will take place on Wednesday, November 12 at Brunswick Senior Center, 12 East A Street, Brunswick, MD 21716. A light supper will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and the seminar will begin at 6:00 p.m. To RSVP, please call 301-600-3525 or email [email protected].
