DNR Fire Investigators Seek Public’s Help in Locating Vehicles of Interest in Okanogan County Fire

Vehicles and Motorcycles Seen Leaving Area of Cumbo Fire Start

Fire investigators with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are seeking the public's help in locating several vehicles seen near the Cumbo fire in Okanogan County.

The fire was first reported on September 11 at 2:00 pm on Burma Road, approximately two miles northwest of Methow. The fire spread to 51 acres and required multiple firefighters and aircraft to control.

Witnesses reported seeing and hearing motorcycles operating off-road near the fire origin. At approximately 2:30 pm, neighbors observed two distinctive vehicles leaving the fire area.

Both were white pickups loaded with motorcycles; one was a crew cab Chevrolet with an open bed and two red motorcycles in the bed. The other was an unknown make with a distinctive black canopy or black utility box and was pulling a white enclosed utility trailer, possibly with motorcycles inside.

As the trucks left the scene, witnesses reported the white truck with the black canopy turned north on Highway 153, and the other white crew cab, with the motorcycles in the bed, turned and went south on Highway 153. Both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed as they drove away from the fire.
