Shaping the future of pediatric medical education and residency training - Children's National

Multiple experts from Children's National Hospital contributed to the inaugural edition of Graduate Medical Education in Pediatrics: From Basic Processes to True Innovation.

"Contributing to this chapter was an opportunity to reflect on how pediatric education must continue evolving to meet the needs of both learners and the patients and families they serve," said Dr. Barber. "By embracing innovation, collaboration and adaptability, we can better prepare the next generation of pediatricians for a rapidly changing healthcare landscape."

• Yael Smiley, MD, medical director, Healthy Generations Program, Amanda Stewart, MD, MPH, director of the Leadership in Advocacy, Under-resourced Communities and Health equity (LAUnCH) Track, and Lanre Falusi, MD, MEd, medical director, Advocacy Education, Child Health Advocacy Institute, co-authored the chapter Starting a New Training Track. This chapter outlines the steps involved in designing and launching innovative residency pathways, from needs assessment and partner engagement to curriculum development and evaluation.

"Developing new training pathways is essential to ensuring our workforce is equipped to address emerging challenges in child health," said Dr. Falusi. "Through this work, we aimed to provide a practical framework that empowers institutions to design programs that are responsive and impactful."
