The Government is investing $800,000 from the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) to help ensure New Zealand tourism businesses and destinations are easier to find through artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The investment will support upgrades to Tourism New Zealand systems and content, improving how information about tourism businesses, attractions and experiences is organised and presented so AI search tools can more easily access and use it.
Funding will also support an expansion of Tourism New Zealand's AI travel assistant, incorporating more content from Regional Tourism Organisations to help visitors discover destinations and experiences across New Zealand.
The investment aims to improve the discoverability of New Zealand tourism experiences, support greater regional dispersal of visitors, encourage longer stays, and help tourism businesses connect with potential international visitors. It also supports the Tourism Policy Statement's focus on helping tourism and hospitality businesses use AI to improve productivity and resilience.
