President Tamás Sulyok welcomed Albanian President Bajram Begaj to Budapest with full military honours.
In his press briefing following the meeting between the two Heads of State, the President of Hungary stated that Hungary remains committed to deepening its political, economic, cultural and educational relations with Albania. He added that the Albanian President and he share the same views on matters concerning border security, national sovereignty and identity, and their preservation. He emphasised that Hungary strives for friendly relations and stable partnerships with all countries in the Western Balkans, as the region is one of the cornerstones of Europe's stability and security.
Albania's commitment is demonstrated by the fact that since 2009, as NATO allies, we have been working together for our common security, pointed out the Hungarian Head of State, who wished every success to the NATO Heads of State and Government at their summit in Tirana in 2027.
Tamás Sulyok emphasised his conviction that the Western Balkans have a place in the European Union. In this endeavour, Albania has already been able to count on Hungary's support, and it can continue to do so in the future. The President added that there is reason for optimism, as Albania's accession process has gained momentum in recent times, and the first cluster was successfully opened precisely during Hungary's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
He expressed his delight that Albania had joined the Three Seas Initiative this year. This forum provides a further opportunity for the countries of the Central European region, stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic and the Black Sea, to further strengthen their economic and political relations with each other on the basis of mutual interests and values, the President emphasised.
"I am proud that our countries have developed increasingly close cooperation in recent years," emphasised Tamás Sulyok, adding that he is confident that the friendly relations will continue.
At the conclusion of his press briefing, the Head of State thanked the President of Albania for the invitation to Tirana and accepted it.
