DelDOT Tractor Struck on Route 1

Smyrna - ; A Delaware Department of Transportation employee escaped serious injury on Monday, April 26, while mowing grass along Route 1 near Duck Creek in Smyrna.

A southbound driver left the roadway and struck the tractor causing extensive damage to both the mower and the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was cited by Delaware State Police.

Just last week, DelDOT observed National Work Zone Awareness Week, held each April at the traditional start of construction season, when the number of workers on our nation's roadways increases. DelDOT reminds drivers to drive attentively, slow down, and move over when possible in work zones.

Two Maryland Department of Transportation workers have been killed in separate work zone crashes since Saturday, further heightening the need for increased awareness on roads throughout the region.
