NEA, JCPA to partner for International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration

WASHINGTON - On January 27, 2026, the National Education Association (NEA) and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) will partner to co-host a virtual event commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

NEA President Becky Pringle to join Amy Spitalnick, CEO of JCPA in conversation.

"Learning and teaching about the horrors of the Holocaust is not just about remembering history, it's about making sure that no people will ever again suffer the dehumanization, violence, and killing born of antisemitism and prejudice. On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, NEA and JCPA are coming together to remember the victims of the Holocaust - the six million Jews and the millions of others who were systematically persecuted and murdered by the Nazi regime. And we are marking this day because antisemitism and harassment continue posing real threats to Jewish students and educators," said NEA President Becky Pringle. "As anti-Jewish hate and bigotry rise in our schools, campuses and communities, we are dedicated to continuing to strengthen NEA's year-round programming, deepening our understanding of how hate impacts our students and educators, and working to counter antisemitism and all forms of hate."

Building on that commitment, JCPA CEO Amy Spitalnick emphasized the urgency of collective action, "Antisemitism is real and rising across the country, including in our schools - threatening the safety, rights, and belonging of Jewish and all students and educators and undermining our core democratic norms and values. The only way forward is to lean into the challenging conversations and build strong relationships and coalitions, even as the loudest voices seek to fuel distrust and division. That is why JCPA is proud to join with NEA President Pringle and NEA members for this critical conversation, part of our broader work with the teachers' unions to advance understanding of antisemitism today and the urgency of unions, educators, and the Jewish community working together to create classrooms, campuses, and a democracy where everyone can thrive."

International Holocaust Remembrance Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly to mark the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp and to remember victims of the systematic state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime, its allies, and collaborators.

NEA has opposed antisemitism throughout its history and remains deeply committed to ensuring the safety and inclusion of Jewish educators and students. NEA and JCPA have partnered to counter the rise in antisemitism, help educators better understand how anti-Jewish hate shows up across society, and to celebrate Jewish identity, faith, culture and history.

Students of every race, background, religion, and ZIP code deserve the freedom to learn and pursue their dreams. Educators know that ending all forms of hate and bigotry in schools is critical to ensuring every student can learn and thrive.
