The $2.3 million investment will expand instruction options and community engagement.
CLINTON, N.C., January 21, 2026 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has invested $2.3 million through a Rural Development Community Facilities Grant to build a 10,000 square foot expansion to Activities Building at Sampson Community College.
Neal Robbins, Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development, and Robert Hosford, Rural Development State Director, attended the official ribbon cutting at the school's Clinton campus on Wednesday.
The expansion will be used as a lecture hall and will accommodate courses requiring open floor space for instruction and skills acquisition, student events, student activities, intramural sports, graduation exercises, and a meeting space for business and industry events.
"President Trump is committed to preparing Americans for the high-paying skilled trade jobs of the future," said Robbins. "Sampson Community College has an excellent work-based learning & apprenticeship program and enhancements to learning enabled by this grant will help the college continue to produce the students and skilled workers our modern economy requires."
The expansion allows the college to continue to provide necessary accommodations for students and staff and will also allow for future growth and expansion.
"The USDA Community Facilities Grant awarded to Sampson Community College is assisting an outstanding educational institution in ability to provide space to educate its students," said Hosford. "This expansion will assist their teachers in their ability to develop new ways to present materials to classes."
