Henry Ford Genesys Hospital Marks Year of Community Impact, Continued Commitment to Patients and Team

• Henry Ford Genesys Hospital invested millions of dollars in capital projects over the past year while serving as one of Genesee County's major employers with more than 2,500 team members.
• The hospital in Grand Blanc provides essential access to care, averaging about 3,450 emergency department visits, 1,200 hospital stays, 680 surgeries and 100 births each month.
• Over the past year, Genesys earned recognition for quality and safety, strengthened nursing engagement and continued negotiations with Teamsters Local 332.

GRAND BLANC, Mich. (Aug. 31, 2026) - As the one-year mark of the nursing strike by Teamsters Local 332 approaches, Henry Ford Genesys Hospital remains focused on what has long defined the hospital's role in Genesee County: caring for patients, supporting team members, and serving as an economic anchor for the region.

Over the past year, leaders have invested millions of dollars in capital projects to ensure Genesys Hospital can continue to provide high-quality, compassionate care to the greater Genesee County community. The hospital also is strengthening its nursing culture, adding key specialists, including a heart surgeon and a neurosurgeon, and building on quality results that reflect the dedication of its clinicians and team members.

More than 2,500 people work at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, making it one of the region's major employers and an essential part of the community's health care infrastructure. Each month, the hospital's dedicated team members care for the community through approximately 3,450 emergency department visits, 1,200 hospital stays, 680 surgeries and 100 births.

Quality of care

Henry Ford Genesys Hospital has significantly built on its role as a trusted destination for high-quality specialty care, emergency services and patient-centered treatment close to home.

In the past year, the hospital has been:

• Rated highest in the region for safety by The Leapfrog Group.
• Certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and recognized by the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines program for evidence-based stroke care.
• Rated high performing in five procedures and conditions in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-27 Best Hospitals ratings: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; colon cancer surgery; knee replacement; leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma; and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

Nursing

As the hospital's representatives continue to negotiate a contract with Teamsters Local 332, more than 350 nurses who chose to work through the strike or were hired after the strike began are reporting greater overall job satisfaction.

Recent data from Press Ganey, an independent company that measures employee satisfaction, showed registered nurses working at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital during the ongoing labor strike reported an average job satisfaction score of 4.16 out of 5 in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with a national average RN satisfaction score of 3.91. Before the strike, nurses at the hospital reported a job satisfaction score of 3.41.

Since the strike began, the hospital has created a shared governance council and hospital-based staffing committee. Shared governance councils at each of Henry Ford Health's acute care hospitals give frontline nurses a stronger voice in decisions affecting patient care, nursing practice, quality, safety and the work environment. Hospital-based staffing committees made up of bedside nurses and nurse leaders directly inform staffing practices.

Ongoing Negotiations

The hospital stands ready to welcome back nurses who have been away as contract negotiations with Teamsters Local 332 continue.

The parties have met 93 times since the hospital and the union began negotiating the nurses' contract in April 2025.

In March 2026, the hospital began implementing some terms of the contract it has proposed to the union's bargaining team including:

• Wages for nurses of up to 13%.
• Economic incentives to support ideal staffing including a 10% pay differential for overnight shifts, a $2 per hour differential for weekend shifts, and critical staffing pay.
• The same nurse-to-patient ratios that were in the Teamsters' last contract.
• A competitive benefits package.
• Honoring seniority and ensuring jobs for every striking nurse.

All of this helps ensure ideal staffing levels as Genesys Hospital team members inside the building care for hundreds of Genesee County community members every day.

The Teamsters' nursing unit went on strike on Sept. 1, 2025. Since then, Henry Ford Health has successfully negotiated eight union contracts, including a contract with the Teamsters' technical unit at Genesys Hospital.

Henry Ford Health assumed operations of Genesys Hospital in October 2024.
