FEMA Provides Georgia Additional $9.3 Million to Fund Hurricane Helene Recovery and COVID-19

ATLANTA - FEMA approved an additional $9.3 million in funding to support disaster recovery and mitigation in Georgia.

The majority of this funding comes from FEMA's Public Assistance program, which has already provided $1.5 billion to help Georgia recover and rebuild after Hurricane Helene. The Public Assistance program provides funds for state and local government response and recovery work at no less than a 75% federal cost share.

The recently approved Hurricane Helene recovery projects include:

  • $4.1 million to Coffee County for management costs.
  • $2.4 million to Jefferson County for debris removal operations.
  • $1.1 million to Jeff Davis County for management costs.
  • $1 million to Burke County for management costs.
  • $202,000 to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners for road repairs.
  • $180,000 to Soperton for management costs.

Georgia also recently received one grant for the COVID-19 response:

  • $353,694 to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia for management costs.

Additionally, FEMA approved $141,000 for the city of Helen to install warning sirens. FEMA is funding this mitigation project at no less than a 75% federal cost share through its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
