On December 12, 2025, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Director-General for ASEAN Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste Elisa Da Silva. Liu Jinsong extended warm congratulations to Timor-Leste on its formal accession to ASEAN and expressed the hope that Timor-Leste will use its accession to ASEAN as an opportunity to advance bilateral relations toward building a community with a shared future and contribute to the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. Elisa Da Silva sincerely thanked China for its selfless assistance and invaluable support for Timor-Leste's national development and its accession to ASEAN. She expressed the hope that through its participation in ASEAN-China cooperation, Timor-Leste could promote its economic and social development and make more positive contributions to regional stability and prosperity. Elisa Da Silva reiterated that Timor-Leste firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and this position will never change.
