WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (NY-02) spoke on the House floor in support of H.R. 1993, the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemorative Coin Act, legislation he co-led to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks and preserve the memory of those lost for future generations. The legislation was later passed by the House of Representatives.
The bill authorizes commemorative coins honoring the lives lost on September 11th and the resilience of the American people in the aftermath of the attacks. The design process will include the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and proceeds from the coin program will support the Memorial and Museum's operations and maintenance at the World Trade Center site.
"For Long Island and New York, September 11th is deeply personal," said Congressman Garbarino. "We will never forget the bravery of the first responders who ran toward danger or the unity this country showed in one of our darkest moments. As we approach the 25th anniversary of the attacks, we have a responsibility to preserve these stories and ensure future generations understand the sacrifices made that day.
Garbarino delivered remarks on the House floor ahead of the vote, emphasizing the importance of preserving the history and legacy of September 11th as the nation approaches the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
