St. Patrick's is located close to the American Embassy in Rome in the upscale Ludovisi district. In the late nineteenth century, Irish Augustinian Fr. Patrick Glynn dreamed of opening a church dedicated to St. Patrick in Rome, leading to the church's opening in 1911. St. Patrick's was operated by the Augustinians until 2017, when the Augustinians discontinued their ministry in Rome and Paulist fathers took leadership. The church's rector serves as the Chaplain for the US Faithful in Rome, and the community welcomes American pilgrims and all English speakers every Sunday for services.
