The bus stop pilot program in downtown Lahti begins next Monday

The bus stop pilot project in downtown Lahti will begin on Monday, August 10, 2026, when the new bus stop arrangements will be implemented. The goal is to streamline public transportation and reduce travel times, and the pilot project will test the functionality and impact of the new bus stop arrangements.

All downtown bus routes will now run through Trio

As part of this pilot program, a new public transit hub in Trio, will be established around the Trio shopping center, through which all downtown bus routes will pass. Most regional routes will also run through Trio.

The bus stops around Trio are located on Aleksanterinkatu (A, B, and C) and Vesijärvenkatu (D, E, and F). The Trio bus hub offers frequent connections to the Päijät-Häme Central Hospital, the Niemi Campus, the Travel Center, and many residential areas.

About half of the buses will continue to run to the market square

You can still reach the market square by bus, as about half of the buses will continue to pass through the market square, and efforts have been made to accommodate all travel directions. From the market square, there are connections to Liipola, Saksala, Riihelä, Renkomäki, Nastola, and Päijät-Häme Central Hospital, among other destinations.

The Route Guide tells you which stop your bus departs from

The route guide shows the departure time and the name of the stop, and it also displays the stop's location on a map. The route guide is available in the Waltti Mobile app and online.

Google Maps also provides routes, schedules, and stops.

A digital schedule display will be installed next to Trio in the coming weeks.

Impact on other traffic and mobility

Cyclists should note that, for safety reasons, cycling is prohibited at the Vesijärvenkatu stops. You can walk your bike past the bus stop area or take a detour via Kauppakatu or Lanunaukio.

Drivers should be prepared for buses to stop in the shoulder lane on Vesijärvenkatu. Although the stops are brief, buses stopping there may occasionally slow down traffic. Especially during the early stages of the trial, it's a good idea to allow a little extra time for trips through the city center on weekday mornings and afternoons, or to consider an alternative route.

Finishing work will continue at the bus stop construction site next week, including the installation of schedule displays and paving work.
