MEDIA ADVISORY: MUPD, Columbia first responders to hold active assailant exercise Tuesday

June 5, 2026
Contact: Travis Zimpfer, [email protected]

The University of Missouri Police Department will host a simulated active armed assailant exercise Tuesday morning just south of the Mizzou Softball Field with other first responders. This routine training will prepare local law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel to manage these incidents in a controlled environment.

Media and the general public will not be allowed to attend the simulation to ensure the participating responders achieve the goals of the exercise while maintaining a safe environment.

Champions Drive will be closed to through traffic during the exercise. However, traffic control measures will be implemented, and digital signage will be in place to redirect drivers and pedestrians.

While this exercise is a test of the emergency procedures, building evacuation plans and additional emergency preparedness information, we encourage the campus community to review those resources in case of an actual emergency. Plans and procedures can be found at mualert.missouri.edu.
