Wayne State Bookstore begins next chapter with new partner Textbook Brokers

Wayne State University is reimagining the campus bookstore experience through a new partnership with Textbook Brokers. The collaboration will expand affordable course materials, add local brands - such as Carhartt and Detroit Vs Everybody - to Wayne State's selection of spirit wear and branded merchandise, and strengthen the bookstore's role as a vibrant hub for the WSU and Midtown communities. After a brief closure to finalize the transition, the Wayne State Bookstore re-opened on Nov. 3 and is ready to serve the campus and community.

"We are thrilled to partner with Textbook Brokers, who share Wayne State's commitment to putting students first, supporting faculty, and bringing our campus and community together," said Dr. Laurie M. Lauzon Clabo, provost and executive vice president. "Our hope is that the WSU Bookstore will continue to evolve, provide best-in-class service and exceed our expectations."

Accessible course materials, expanded merchandise and more

Through this partnership, students will benefit from Warrior Day 1 Access, a program that provides high-quality physical and digital course materials at the start of each semester. Faculty will also enjoy streamlined course material selection via a new Faculty Portal. The WSU Bookstore will enhance the in-store experience with faster support through the concierge counter service, and improved online ordering with free in-store pickup and Live Chat support. Textbook Brokers will supply technology products online through its Best Buy Technology shop, which includes laptops and accessories.

Linda Beale, law professor and president of the university's Academic Senate, served on the evaluation committee, and noted that Textbook Brokers understood the need to make the bookstore space an inviting place for faculty, students and our Midtown neighbors,

"It's great to have a quick transition for services, and we look forward to store renovations and events over the next year," she said.

In addition to expanding course material access, the bookstore will offer a wider variety of spirit wear, gifts and accessories in-store and online. WSU-branded merchandise is also coming soon from Carhartt, Detroit Vs Everybody, Nike, Champion, and other popular national and local brands. The Wayne State Bookstore will continue to provide commencement regalia. "It's an exciting time to partner with Textbook Brokers to offer a tailored campus experience. This new collaboration opens doors to a wide variety of exclusive Wayne State apparel from national and local brands, allowing every Warrior to show their pride in style," said Brittani Hobbs, associate director of social media and partnerships, who oversees university licensing and branded merchandise.

Textbook Brokers is currently exploring local partners to operate an enhanced cafe, and renovations and building enhancements are expected during the summer of 2026.

Textbook Brokers was selected as WSU's next bookstore services provider through a competitive bidding process led by an evaluation committee of faculty, staff and students, representing the Academic Senate, Academic Affairs, Athletics, Finance and Business Affairs, Facilities Planning and Management, Student Senate and University Relations. The process launched in spring 2025 and the partnership officially began Nov. 1. Founded in 1997 as an independent, off-campus bookstore, Textbook Brokers is now a trusted partner for campus bookstores nationwide.

"While there were many factors involved in the decision, they stood out because of their commitment to innovation and improving the faculty and student experience," said Brad Dick, senior associate vice president for Finance and Business Affairs. "I'd like to thank the entire evaluation committee who dedicated substantial time, effort and consideration to the process for the benefit of our university."

Experience the new partnership by visiting the Wayne State Bookstore in-store Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 24/7 online.
