Dr. Bains’ Statement on Resignation of CARB Chair

For immediate release:
Tuesday, September 16, 2025

(Sacramento, CA) September 16, 2025 - Dr. Jasmeet Bains (D-Delano) released the following statement in response to the announcement that Liane Randolph, Chair of the California Air Resources Board, will resign at the end of the month.

"I called for Chair Randolph's resignation earlier this year after she admitted CARB regularly adopts regulations without bothering to analyze impacts to gas prices. CARB needs a new leader who will put cost-of-living issues first. Proposals that impose even higher costs on working and middle-class families must be rejected. California has the highest poverty rate in the country because of costly and irresponsible state policies.

I call on my colleagues in the State Senate to put the Governor's next nominee on record before agreeing to confirm her. Will she follow CARB's practice of ignoring inconvenient facts and imposing regressive costs on hardworking Californians? Or will she chart a new path to protect poor people from CARB's worst instincts?"
