Public Warning: Ongoing circulation of fraudulent online messages misusing the name of the Central Bank of Montenegro

The Central Bank of Montenegro warns the public that fraudulent messages are being circulated via messaging applications and social media, falsely using the name of the Central Bank of Montenegro, as well as the company Western Union.

These messages falsely claim that the Central Bank of Montenegro and Western Union are offering a one-time gift of €50 to all adult citizens of Montenegro, inviting recipients to click on the link included in the message in order to allegedly claim the payment.

The Central Bank of Montenegro has not sent these messages nor is it involved in this activity. This is an attempted online phishing scam designed to lure citizens into opening fraudulent links and potentially disclosing their personal, financial, or banking information.

The Central Bank reminds the public that the institution communicates exclusively through its official communication channels - its official website and the Central Bank of Montenegro's verified social media accounts. The Central Bank also emphasizes that it does not conduct joint promotional campaigns with individual private legal entities, nor does it ever ask citizens to click on any links, fill out forms, install applications, or provide personal or banking information in order to receive unexpected financial benefits, gifts, or rewards.

The Central Bank urges citizens not to open links contained in such messages, not to enter or disclose personal, financial, or banking information, not to forward such messages to others, and to report suspicious messages to the relevant authorities and then delete them.
