Torrance Memorial joins an elite group of hospitals nationwide recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for excellence in patient care, safety and outcomes.

TORRANCE, Calif. - Torrance Memorial Medical Center has been awarded a prestigious 5-star Overall Hospital Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), placing the hospital among the nation's top-performing healthcare organizations for quality, safety and patient experience.

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings are designed to help patients, families and caregivers compare hospitals based on performance measures related to quality of care. Of the nearly 2,277 hospitals rated nationwide, only 12.5% received the highest 5-star designation.

"This recognition reflects the extraordinary commitment and compassion of every member of our team," said Keith Hobbs, CEO of Torrance Memorial Medical Center. "Receiving a 5-star CMS rating demonstrates our ongoing dedication to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care while maintaining the highest standards for safety and clinical excellence."

CMS is a federal agency that provides health coverage to more than 160 million Americans through Medicare, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program and the Health Insurance Marketplace. The agency partners with healthcare organizations across the country to improve quality, equity and outcomes throughout the healthcare system.

The CMS Overall Star Rating methodology evaluates hospitals using a comprehensive seven-step process that analyzes and weights performance across several critical categories, including mortality, patient safety, hospital readmissions, patient experience, and timely and effective care.

Torrance Memorial performed above the national average in key areas including mortality outcomes, outpatient services and patient satisfaction scores - helping the organization achieve the coveted 5-star rating.

The recognition further reinforces Torrance Memorial's longstanding reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate care throughout the South Bay and greater Los Angeles region.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earned a five-star rating for the ninth year in a row, while Huntington Hospital showed significant improvements across all major areas measured by CMS, placing the hospital within the four-star range, a significant achievement and major improvement over 2025.

"This achievement belongs to our physicians, nurses, employees and volunteers who work tirelessly every day to provide outstanding care to our community," Hobbs added. "We are honored to be recognized among the nation's best hospitals."
