Rep. Tangie Herring to Host Free Water Safety and Swim Lessons for Macon-Bibb Children

ATLANTA - State Representative Tangie Herring (D-Macon), in partnership with the YMCA of Metro Atlanta and Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation, will bring free water safety and swim lessons to Macon-Bibb County children from Monday, July 27 - Friday, July 31, 2026, from 9 - 11 a.m. at the South Bibb Recreation Center in Macon.

"Every child deserves the opportunity to learn how to stay safe around water," said Rep. Herring. "As a former educator, I've spent my career working to protect and support children both inside and outside the classroom. These free lessons can equip young people with skills that may one day save their lives, and I'm proud to partner with organizations that are making this opportunity available to families throughout Macon-Bibb County."

The nationally recognized YMCA Safety Around Water program teaches children essential water safety skills, while helping them become more comfortable and confident in and around the water. Participants learn basic swimming techniques, how to respond in emergency situations and other life-saving skills designed to reduce the risk of drowning.

The program is presented through a partnership among Amazon, Georgia Power, Macon-Bibb County Government, Rep. Herring, Y Not Us and the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. The classes are offered free of charge to participating families with children aged six through 12. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register as soon as possible, as enrollment is limited to 40 children.
