PHILADELPHIA - As reports emerge of SNAP funds being released to individual recipients as early as today, Mayor Cherelle L. Parker reassures residents that the City of Philadelphia's $14 million intergovernmental, public, and private partnership remains fully operational.
Since introducing the One Philly SNAP Support Plan response last week:
The City's Free Food and Meals Finder has experienced over a 500 percent increase in use, with more than 36,000 views recorded.
"These numbers underscore the continuing need to support Philadelphians facing this crisis," said Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. "Since my initial call to action, I've been proud of Philadelphians stepping up to assist their neighbors in need, from Aramark donating $80,000 to expand the One Philly Produce Project, to the law firm of Dilworth Paxson contributing $50,000 to local food banks, and the Navy Yard Philadelphia launching a campus-wide food drive to collect food for Philabundance. That's in addition to the $6 million dollars that our philanthropic partners at the Philadelphia Foundation, William Penn Foundation, and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey have committed to aid in the battle against food insecurity. These are just some examples of ONE Philly in action to go above and beyond."
The ONE Philly SNAP response plan is dedicated to supporting nearly 500,000 Philadelphia residents impacted by benefit disruptions. While we are grateful that some benefits are starting to be distributed, our commitment to addressing food insecurity in this city remains steadfast.
We are proud of this citywide effort, powered by a collaboration of the Parker Administration and partners spanning from City Council and the Commonwealth to corporate, philanthropic and nonprofit leaders who are committed to ensuring that Philadelphians have access to the food and resources needed to thrive. About the One Philly Snap Support Plan
The City estimates that there are close to 500,000 Philadelphia residents who face a disruption in their receipt of SNAP benefits. That's in addition to thousands of residents who are already navigating increasingly difficult financial headwinds due to uncertainty. With a multitude of our residents and advocates traversing these unprecedented conditions, the Parker Administration is allocating $7 million as part of a $14 million regional effort to support city residents who may be affected by these ongoing disruptions. The $14 million includes: $7 million from the City, $6 million from philanthropy, and approximately $1 million from the Commonwealth.
