Wynonna Judd Says Working On Album With Husband Cactus Moser 'Forced Us To Go Out On Date Night'

Wynonna Judd and her husband, Cactus Moser, "fell in love with each other all over again," while working on her upcoming record.

Judd, 62, will release The Hard Truth on Friday (October 2). The project is hailed "the most personal album of her storied career," according to a previous press release. Judd co-wrote most of the deeply personal tracks with Moser, 69, whom she met in the late '80s and married in 2012.

"I think we fell in love with each other all over again because we had so many subjects that were so real that it forced us to go out on date night and talk about it," Judd shared in an interview for PEOPLE 's cover story. "Communication is everything to me, and that album has brought us together in a way that's so intimate here [in her mind]. Marriage is about more than just the physical, and so bonding through that music was so sacred."

Judd said in an interview with iHeartCountry earlier this year that "music is such a healer. It really brings people together in a way that's really necessary today in our country." Music is about connection and community, and listeners can sense when something is real ("people know BS when they see it and hear it, and they don't want it anymore"), she said.

So far, Judd has released "Am I Missing Out," "Hear Me Now" with Iron & Wine, "Kentucky Queen" and "Girl Who Could Sing" from The Hard Truth. Judd said when she announced the album, "I've spent a lifetime singing about heartbreak, healing, faith, and survival, but I've never made a record like this one. These songs tell the truth about where I've been, what I've lost, what I've overcome, and who I've become. This album asked me to be brave enough to tell the truth-even when my voice shook. It challenged me to let go of perfectionism and embrace the beauty of honest emotion."
