CHICAGO - Tomorrow, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) will attend the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center, which is located in the Second District. The ceremony will launch opening festivities over the Juneteenth weekend. Earlier this year, Rep. Kelly secured $1.2 million in federal funding for Jackson Park to enhance pathways throughout the park and to the Obama Center.
"After years of anticipation and planning, I'm thrilled to attend the opening of the Obama Presidential Center right here in the Second District. The Obamas have never forgotten their roots in the South Side of the Chicago, and the Center will help spur even more growth, opportunity, and hope," said Rep. Kelly. "President Obama has and always will be a president we can believe in to improve our democracy. I'm incredibility thankful to him and First Lady Michelle Obama for continuing to bring hope when it's needed the most."
The Obama Center opens to the public on Friday, which is also Juneteenth.
