Escambia County is pleased to recognize Dexter Beasley, Traffic Engineering Specialist in the Engineering Department, as the July 2026 Employee of the Month. Beasley's selection will be recognized with a proclamation at the July 23 Board of County Commissioners meeting.
In his role as Traffic Engineering Specialist, Beasley is responsible for several tasks including reviewing plats, maps, and survey-related documents, creating and amending county survey requirements, acting as a liaison between Escambia County and private engineers and contractors, and more. He also oversees several programs including Traffic Street Sign, Driveway, and Right-of-Way Permitting.
Since joining Escambia County in 2019, Beasley has successfully managed and contributed to several projects and programs that have had major impacts for the Engineering Department. He identified the need for a new permitting process and worked diligently to implement a better workflow, which improved the permitting process both internally and for residents. Recently, Beasley responded to several buried cable incidents on W Street and in the Northpointe area, working diligently with county staff to ensure the roads could reopen as quickly as possible. When the Development Review Committee's Access Management Review role became vacant, Beasley stepped in to ensure operations could continue. He has been recognized by his colleagues for his technical skill, ability to meet tight deadlines, and willingness to go above and beyond to help others.
"Dexter is a team player and an integral part of the Engineering Department," Escambia County Director of Engineering Joy Blackmon said. "He plays a critical role in the work we do and consistently delivers a high level of service, all while demonstrating patience and a positive attitude that helps boost team morale. Dexter is extremely deserving of Employee of the Month, and we are thrilled to celebrate all he does for our department and for Escambia County."
Outside of working with the Engineering Department, Beasley is a volunteer firefighter with Escambia County Fire Recue, demonstrating his passion for helping others in need and serving his community. He serves as the Engineering Department's safety representative, ensuring employees are up to date on all required safety training and information, and volunteers on the Neighborhood Task Force, a committee comprised of county departments, community partners, and law enforcement to resolve issues throughout county neighborhoods.
"I am truly honored and grateful for this recognition," Beasley said. "It has been a privilege to serve the citizens of Escambia County for the past seven years-five years with Environmental Enforcement, the past two years with Engineering, and 18 years as a volunteer firefighter with Escambia County Fire Rescue. I have been incredibly blessed to work alongside dedicated professionals across every department. Their teamwork, support, and commitment to serving our community inspire me every day. This recognition reflects not only my efforts but also the outstanding people I have the privilege of serving with. I am sincerely thankful for this honor and look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Escambia County."
