Precautionary Boil Advisory for 9th Street SW Area

The City of Cedar Rapids is issuing a Precautionary Boil Advisory to customers within the boundary listed below to boil water used for personal consumption.

Affected addresses are 8th Avenue SW, 10th Avene SW, and 9th St SW between 8th Avenue SW and 10th Avenue SW. A rupture in a water main caused dirt and gravel to enter the main, which has created potential for bacteria contamination to occur.

Affected addresses:

  • 9th Street SW: 720, 800, 803, 807, 809, 810, 815, 820, 824, 825, 826, 827, 830, 834, 836, 900, 901, 904, 907, 908, 911, 914, 915, 916, 917, 918, 922
  • 8th Avenue SW: 814, 817, 820, 826, 912, 915,
  • 10th Avenue SW: 818, 822, 826

A map outlining the area is available here.

We advise residents in the affected area to follow these steps for added protection against potential bacteria contamination in water used for consumption only:

  1. Bring water to a boil,
  2. Let it rapidly boil for at least 1 minute,
  3. Allow to cool completely before consuming.
  4. Pregnant or nursing mothers and infants under 6 months, please use bottled water.

WATER IN ALL OTHER AREAS IS SAFE TO CONSUME.

Repairs to the system are underway. The area of the break will be repaired, flushed and follow-up testing will occur. Chlorine levels will be monitored, and two consecutive sets of bacteria samples will be collected for analysis. Next anticipated update by noon Sunday, April 26 at which time this order will be either lifted or extended.
