UAA's Galloway nabs GNAC weekly honor

Portland, Oregon (Sept. 2) - UAA volleyball senior Madison Galloway was named Tuesday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Week after helping her team to a perfect start on opening weekend.

A libero from Pensacola, Florida, Galloway averaged 4.24 digs per set and .978 (88 of 90) on serve-receive as UAA went 4-0 in the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge, presented by Alaska Airlines.

The Seawolves' lone fourth-year senior had 22 digs in back-to-back five-set victories over Hawaii Hilo and No. 9 Chaminade on Thursday and Friday, and finished the tournament with 19 digs in a 3-1 win over Hilo on Saturday. In Friday's win, she became the 18th Seawolf to surpass 1,000 career digs, now standing 15th on the program list with 1,025.

"Maddy was excellent in serve-receive and relentless on defense," said UAA head coach Stacie Meisner. "The quality of her digs allowed us to run our offense in transition and put our players in positions to score."

Galloway and her teammates are back in action Thursday-Saturday when they host the Seawolf Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center. UAA opens at 7 p.m. Thursday against NCAA Div. II West Region rival Biola. Find tickets and live links at GoSeawolves.com.
