Newberg, OR - On Friday, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) joined Newberg Mayor Bill Rosacker and City Manager Will Worthy to celebrate $750,000 in federal Community Project Funding that Rep. Salinas secured for the City of Newberg. The funding will be used to construct covered structures over water basins at the Newberg Water Treatment Plant, bringing the facility into compliance with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality standards and protecting the city's drinking water supply.
"Clean, safe drinking water is something every family deserves," said Rep. Salinas. "This funding will help Newberg protect its water supply, meet state standards, and give residents peace of mind knowing their water is being treated safely. I'm glad I could help Newberg get the federal resources it needs to protect people's health and make a smart investment in this community."
The Newberg Water Treatment Plant serves thousands of residents in the Newberg area. Without covered structures over the water basins, the plant cannot meet current DEQ environmental standards. Left unaddressed, the compliance gap puts residents at risk and exposes the city to regulatory penalties. The $750,000 federal investment, secured through the annual congressional appropriations process, covers the full cost of constructing the basin covers needed to bring the plant into compliance.
Community Project Funding allows members of Congress to direct federal resources to specific local priorities. Rep. Salinas has used the program to secure investments across Oregon's Sixth Congressional District for water infrastructure, public safety, housing, workforce development, and public health.
