CHRISTMAS ADDRESS BY AFIOGA I LE AO MAMALU O LE MALO - TUIMALEALIIFANO VAALETO'A SUALAUVI II, [December 2025]

My beloved people of Samoa. I extend my warmest greetings to you all across our nation and abroad on this Christmas, a day marked by worship and renewed faith, reflection and joy, softening of hearts and reconciliation, and rekindling of hope as we unite in spirit to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer.

As we reflect on the year now drawing to a close, we do so with humility and gratitude to our Heavenly Father for the achievements and progress He has empowered us to pursue. We have traversed challenges and trials that have tested our patience and endurance, but our Christian faith has strengthened us to persevere and march forward. In those moments, we were reminded that true resilience is sustained not only by human effort, but by trust in God, and loving and caring for one another.

The Christmas story speaks powerfully into our own journey, and should always remind us of God's grace and boundless mercy for humanity. His Son Jesus laid aside his princely glory, power and status and embraced the frailty of human existence. He was not born into a life of wealth, comfort and certainty, but into humility, simplicity, and service. Yet from that quiet night in a manger at Bethlehem, He has become the light of the world that continues to shine across generations, bringing hope, peace, Godly love, and salvation to mankind. This is the enduring message of Christmas.

May I express my sincere gratitude to all who have served our nation and people faithfully throughout the year.

I acknowledge the vital role of our church leaders and clergy amongst the various denominations both in Samoa and abroad in uplifting the spiritual life of our people. Your tireless efforts, prayers and supplication have been instrumental in making Samoa a nation of faith, blessed by God.

I acknowledge the Honourable Prime Minister and Cabinet for their leadership of the newly appointed government of our country. Samoa has entrusted you with the solemn responsibility of steering and guiding our nation in this 18th Parliamentary Term. May your Christian faith and quest for unity and reconciliation prevail as you guide our nation toward enduring peace, prosperity, and the well-being of our people.

I acknowledge the Honorable Speaker of the House and Members of Parliament, the representatives of the 51 electoral districts of Samoa. I congratulate you on your deliberations, especially our national budget, which now provides a strong foundation for the continued development and progress of our country.

I acknowledge his Honor Chief Justice and the Judiciary for their unwavering execution of judicial duties to ensure that the rule of law is upheld with integrity and fairness for our people.

I acknowledge all government employees, members of the business community, and development partners for your steadfast service to our Government and nation.

I acknowledge the Councils of Chiefs and Orators, our elderly people, women's committees, youth, and all the people of Samoa, for your respective services and contributions in support of the initiatives and aspirations of our Government for the welfare of our families, villages and communities.

I extend heartfelt gratitude to our people residing across the globe, for your love and support, for your families, villages, and churches, and contributing to the development and progress of Samoa.

Finally, I commend the diligent efforts of our children and youth in the pursuit of knowledge and your perseverance in learning throughout the year. One day you will become pillars of your families, villages, churches, and the Government of Samoa.

Christmas calls us to look beyond ourselves. It invites us to show kindness to the vulnerable, comfort to the grieving, and support to those facing hardship. In extending mercy and love to others, we bear witness to the grace of God revealed in the birth of Christ.

As a nation, we are called to walk together in unity, respect, and peace. While differences may arise, Christmas reminds us that reconciliation begins with humility, forgiveness, and love. May this holy season renew our commitment to harmony, understanding, and the common good.

The proclamation of the Gospel of Luke has been fulfilled,

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

May Christmas continue to remind us that Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. He will never leave us, nor forsake us, because God is faithful and true to all His promises.

May the peace of Christ dwell in every home. May joy be renewed in our families, strength given to the weary and hope vested in every heart.

May the Lord bless and keep us, and may His peace be upon all our people and the whole world on this Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas Samoa.

Soifua.
