Women’s volleyball team travels to Alfred State for Alfred Cup matchup

The Alfred Cup, an annual year-long competition between varsity sports teams from Alfred University and Alfred State College, continues on Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Alfred University women's volleyball visits Alfred State for a 4 p.m. contest at the Orvis Gymnasium.

The Alfred Cup-sponsored by The Power & Construction Group and ServU Federal Credit Union-is an annual competition between Alfred University and Alfred State College athletic teams. A points-based system that awards two points for a win, one for a tie, and no points for a loss will determine the inaugural Alfred Cup winner. The competition highlights the unique setting of two NCAA Division III schools located in the small, but fiercely competitive, village of Alfred.

Alfred University Advancement's Alumni Engagement Office will have a "swag table" set up at the Oct. 11 volleyball match. Fans are encouraged to stop by the table between 3:30 and 4 p.m. to pick up free Alfred University purple and gold swag. Don't forget to wear your purple and gold gear to show your Saxon spirit.

Alfred University alumni are encouraged to register to win an alumni swag bag, limit one entry per competition. Submit the entry at the Alfred University swag table. The drawing is sponsored by the Alumni Engagement Office.

Alfred University faculty and staff are urged to participate in the faculty and staff attendance competition. Simply submit an entry at the Alfred University swag table at each competition, with entries limited to one per competition. Each entry provides participants a chance to win the end-of-season grand prize. Alfred University identification must be shown to enter. The competition is sponsored by Alfred University Athletics and local businesses.

The next Alfred Cup competition after the volleyball match will be the football game at Alfred State's Pioneer Stadium, on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.
